2011 | Roland Breitschuh

The photograph “Morocco12” by Roland Breitschuh shows the moon above the Moroccan city of Fez. It was taken from the cycle “Morocco.” The picture conveys a sense of the Biblical peace of the lively Old Town after the evening prayer. The “Bethlehem” impression is quite deliberately chosen. Part of a series of night images from all over Morocco, it was taken during the shooting of the multipart series “Gesichter des Islam” (Faces of Islam) shown on the German television channel ARD.

Roland Breitschuh, born in 1964, is a trained advertising photographer and cameraman. Some of his photographs of people and fine art have been shown at the Cologne Chamber of Crafts and at the Art and Regional Museum of the town of Keitum on the island of Sylt. He has been awarded several film prizes for documentaries, including the Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau Prize and the Grimme Prize.

Roland Breitschuh lives with his family in Cologne.

A limited special series was created from the motif “Morocco12” or “Moon12” and was printed in consultation with the artist.

More details on the artist and his work can be found at www.rbreitschuh.de.
