2008 | Herbert Böttcher

"Seamotion # 10" is a work by photographer Herbert Boettcher and shows the container ship Cap Caramel entering Singapore harbour. For his Seamotion project in 2004, Herbert Boettcher travelled aboard two container ships on seven-week voyages from Europe to South America and Asia.
Against sweeping panoramas, the photographer captures the interplay between the sea, the wind and huge onward-gliding container ships:
At a time when digital media is determining how we see the world, Herbert Boettcher consciously combines the use of conventional cameras with camera obscura - the pinhole camera. For Boettcher, this represents anything but taking recourse to photographic history. On the contrary, the two camera techniques combined with digital image editing provide him with the artistic freedom to see and approach familiar themes in new and different ways.
